St. Augustine Varieties
These grasses are identical to the eye, however, they each have differing
growth characteristics.
Floratam - This is the most widely produced and used St. Augustine grass in
Florida. Floratam requires 5-6 hours of direct sunlight each day. It grows
vigorously in the warmth.
Bitter Blue - Yards that receive 4-5 hours of sunlight per day can sustain Bitter
Blue.
Palmetto - For shady yards Palmetto is your best bet. It requires only 2-3 hours
of sunlight per day. Additionally, Palmetto Sod is DISEASE, INSECT and
DROUGHT tolerant. It is a vigorous grower and remains green while other
sods go dormant after a frost.
Seville - A semi-dwarf, fine-leaved variety with a dark green color and a low
growth habit. Seville performs well in shade and full sun. Being a semi-dwarf
variety, Seville's maintenance is different than taller growing varieties. This
sod will grow with only 2-3 hours of sunlight per day.
Sapphire - This improved turfgrass is softer, and has lower maintenance needs, than virtually any other St. Augustine available at this time. Sapphire is the only finer bladed, high performance St. Augustine in the world.
